Uninformed Bayesian quantum thermometry

چکیده
We study the Bayesian approach to thermometry with no prior knowledge about expected temperature scale, through example of energy measurements on fully or partially thermalized qubit probes. show that most common estimators, namely mean and median, lead high-temperature divergences when used for uninformed thermometry. To circumvent this achieve better overall accuracy, we propose two new estimators based an optimization relative deviations. Their global temperature-averaged behavior matches a modified van Trees bound, which complements Cram\'er-Rao bound smaller probe numbers unrestricted ranges. Furthermore, that, using probes, one can increase range temperatures thermometer is sensitive at cost local accuracy.

Quantum transport thermometry for electrons in graphene.
We propose a method of measuring the electron temperature T_{e} in mesoscopic conductors and demonstrate experimentally its applicability to micron-size graphene devices in the linear-response regime (T_{e} approximately T, the bath temperature). The method can be especially useful in case of overheating, T_{e}>T. It is based on analysis of the correlation function of mesoscopic conductance flu...
متن کاملIndividual Quantum Probes for Optimal Thermometry.
The unknown temperature of a sample can be estimated with minimal disturbance by putting it in thermal contact with an individual quantum probe. If the interaction time is sufficiently long so that the probe thermalizes, the temperature can be read-out directly from its steady state. Here we prove that the optimal quantum probe, acting as a thermometer with maximal thermal sensitivity, is an ef...
متن کاملSimulating and Optimising Quantum Thermometry Using Single Photons
A classical thermometer typically works by exchanging energy with the system being measured until it comes to equilibrium, at which point the readout is related to the final energy state of the thermometer. A recent paper noted that with a quantum thermometer consisting of a single spin/qubit, temperature discrimination is better achieved at finite times rather than once equilibration is essent...
متن کاملShot-noise thermometry of the quantum Hall edge States.
We use the nonequilibrium bosonization technique to investigate the effects of the Coulomb interaction on quantum Hall edge states at a filling factor ν=2, partitioned by a quantum point contact (QPC). We find that, due to the integrability of charge dynamics, edge states evolve to a nonequilibrium stationary state with a number of specific features. In particular, the noise temperature Θ of a ...
متن کاملUninformed Hawking radiation
We show in detail that the Parikh-Wilczek tunneling method (PWTM), which was designed for resolving the information loss problem in Hawking radiation (HR) fails whenever the radiation occurs from an isothermal process. The PWTM aims to produce a non-thermal HR which adumbrates the resolution of the problem of unitarity in quantum mechanics (QM), and consequently the entropy (or information) con...
